Suggest Treatment For Nausea And Appetite Loss When Suffering From Renal Failure

Hi Dr. My sister - Denise 65 years was diagnosed last wednesday with renal failure. Today the dr said that she has 80% bloodcancer. Dyalises and chemo wont help for her advanced condition. We stay in Cape Town, south Africa.
Due to low funds, he recommended her to a state hospital. She is very nauseases with no appetite. Please be so kind as to give me some advice. She is going to be discharged on Thursday,14th June. PLEASE HELP.

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Chemotherapy and dialysis frequently causes loss of appetite. One treatment that has some mild improvement in appetite is taking diphenhydramine. This is an anti-histamine which can stimulate appetite. Her doctor may also recommend other prescription medications like mirtazapine (an antidepressant) or Megestrol (a steroid). You can help by finding appropriate food supplements that adhere to her diet restrictions.
