Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
all of a sudden, nerve pain was in my top part of my foot and into the big toe...stabbing pain...horrible then would change to severe numbness or sometimes a burning pain. I had no injury to bring it on. Do you think this will be temporary? I m not daibetic, but pre diabetic. Dr. put me on Gabapentin, but I would rather get to the source of the nerve pain...not live on meds...thank you.

I would suggest x ray lumbar spine and complete neurological exam.pregabalin, gabapentin and duloxetine are all helpful in neuropathic pain but they take time to act.i would also suggest some vitamen and mineral suppliments.
