Hello!
Sleep apnea is a disorder that is charachterized by the reduction of airflow or arrest of breathing. Some conditions that make people more predisposed are obesity, male sex,
Diabetes meltus, hypothiroidism,
smoking, alcohol use,
snoring, supine sleeping position.
The treatment include different measures. For people who have mild sleep apnea general and behavioural measures are importatnt and can treat the disorders without further treatments. In
obese patients,
weight loss is the most important measeure. Other behavioural measures are the avoidance of alcohol 4 to six hour before sleep, encouraging sleepin in one side. For those who have a moderate to severe condition other measures are to be taken like the masks with continuous
positive airway pressure or bilevel positive airway pressure. These techniques succeed in maintaining the airways open, because of the use of air with positive pressure through those. Another technique is oral appliance therapy, which consist in pulling the tongue forward, enlarging the mandible. By these techniques the airways stay open.
I think that it is good for you to loose weight, even if in the future another measure will be needed, because you will receive a greater result from other techniques with less weight.
I hope i have been of help
