Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having a [problem with Olecranon Bursitis. I have had the fluid drained several times only to have it return in as little as 24 hours. I have been using cold compresses, PennSaid lotion, and a compressive wrap, but nothing seems to alleviate the problem. What options do I have, including surgical, to eliminate this?
It is most likely a condition called bursitis which may be caused by trauma or by any other irritation of a cubital bursa, a small fat pad in the elbow. At this point, you should rest with the elbow, apply ice, take nonsteroid painkillers and elevate your arm and put elastic compress. It should lead to symptom improvement within 12 hours. Later, if there is no improvement, it would be advisable to do X-rays and see if fracture exist. Also, hematoma or seroma accumulation may persist and then elbow puncture and fluid evacuation should be done by a doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
