Suggest Treatment For Overgrowth Of Bacteria In Small Intestine

I have had diarrhea for about a year. I have been tested for everything and w/ no clear diagnoses except overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. I have been told that I am not a candidate for fecal transplant but I am interested as others have asked me why I have not persued that treatment plan. What are my options?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

SIBO that is small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth is now a days a known entity and can be treated well.
Since you have not mentioned about the lab reports or other investigations I would advise you the following:
Consult a Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation.
Tests of stool for three consecutive days.
Tests of blood for diabetes, thyroid function and as needed as these may be the basic cause for loose stools for a year.
Other causes such as intestinal tuberculosis should also be done.
Upper GI Endoscopy and colonoscopy with biopsy helps further.
There are known medications for SIBO and can help you to get well.
IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome should also to be considered if all the tests are normal and control of stress and anxiety is a must in such a case.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon.
