General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your father's problem can be due to sciatica which is usually due lumbar spinal disc problems. A physical examination by orthopedician will be helpful to rule out this. X ray followed by MRI of lumbo sacral spine might be needed to confirm it also. For my patients with such condition I would advise taking muscle relaxants like cyclobenzaprine, NSAIDs like aceclofenac and neurotropics drugs like pregabalin and methylcobalamin. Physiotherapy like TENS, heating pads etc and back muscle strengthening exercises is recommended along with this also. Sleep on hard mattress. Better to use orthopedic pillow for neck. Use a pillow under knees also while sleeping. Avoid sleeping on abdomen. Using lumbar supporting belts is also good.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
