Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In The Ankle

Hi! I am a 43 year old fairly active female. I have been running anywhere from 5-12 miles per week on the roadways in our town. About 2 months ago, my right lower leg began to ache behind my ankle. It isn t swollen or warm to the touch but it is painful to run so I stopped jogging for about 2 weeks and thought it felt good so resumed running. After about a week, it became really sore again. It isn t my ankle that hurts. Is is the area directly behind my right ankle and goes up the outside of my leg about 6 inches. It hurts to run so again I have stopped but would like to know what might be the problem, what to do about it, and how long to expect recovery to take. I have not suffered from running injuries before but have only been running regularly for about 3 years now. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to achilles tendonitis. Resting for days will make you better. NSAIDs like nimusulide will be helpful. You can also use local gels with combination of ketoprofen and methyl salicylate. You should also change your foot where to one which doesn't irritates your foot. If there is no improvement local injection of corticosteroids like triamcinolone will be helpful.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
I find this answer helpful
