Suggest Treatment For Painful Intercourse After Injury

I had the mirena placed in May, went in June to have the strings checked and was told it had ripped me and given me an infection. I did the round of antibiotics. Since then however, intercourse has been painful, I ve had abdominal pain, and white tissue discharge with my urine. Upon calling my obgyn I was assured this was all a normal part of having the mirena, and there was no reason to have it removed. I am concerned about the abdominal pain, and the discharge, is it normal? Should I push to have the mirena removed?

Hello,

I don't think that the pain and discharge are normal while on mirena. You should do a vaginal smear and urine sample to get checked. You should take proper treatment.I don't think you should remove it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
