Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
for the past 3 months i have been having severe panic attacks that last all day long, to the point that i can barely function. i have been to many doctors and have been given numerous medications. the attacks all started on one day and have never gone away. at the time i was drinking alot so the doctors assumed it was dt's. i have'nt drinken in over a month and a half and the attacks are getting worse.the last doctor ruled out dt's due to the fact that for one the attacks happened while i was still drinking, and for two i would have past the dt's by now. any ideas......
As you are having panic attacks since last 3 months so we can classify them in Panic Disorder. For treatment of panic disorder both medicinal and psychological treatment is used. Medicines commonly used in panic attacks are SSRIs like Fluoxetine, Escitalopram, Sertraline etc. These medicines when taken regularly help to reduce panic attacks. For symptomatic relief medicines like low dose benzodiazepines like Clonazepam, Lorazepam etc can be used. Visit a psychiatrist for proper evaluation and prescription of these drugs.
Relaxation exercises, yoga, meditation etc also have excellent roles in controlling panic attacks.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
