Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with Perioral Dermatitis. I have been on antibiotics orally and creams that do nothing. I am frustrated because I still have the rash on my face and I don t know what else to try. I have gone to two dermatologists and they tell me it is a condition that I need to live with the rest of my life. I am doing my own research to prove them wrong. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks for your time :) KIM
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain Perioral dermatitis is a condition in which there is formation of small red itchy pappules around the mouth and can also extend to sides of nose and under the eyes.. It commonly resolves well with treatment and the commonly given medication are antibiotics Erythromycin, Metronidazole and azelic acid preparations.. But in case if the condition is resistant and not resolving a course of retinoids like Isotretinoin, antibiotics like Doxycycline and topical application of Erythromycin and azelic acid ointments has to be continued for months under supervision of a trained Dermatologist.. I would suggest you to wash your face with warm water and as the rashes are present avoid all kind of soaps and facewashes.. Any skin cosmetic or creams should be avoided.. Maintain a proper face hygiene.. Limit sun exposure..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
