Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am being treated for acid reflux and Have for years. I was taking omeprazole-OTC 80mg a day. It began to be ineffective and I was having incidents of the stomach constantly pushing acid into my esophagus resulting in irritating my mouth and causing me to experience phlegm and causing my mouth to literally be raw from the incident. I switched to Nexium-OTC and am taking two in the morning and two in the evening. Right now I am having one of those incidents and cannot even lie down because the acid reflux is literally drowning my mouth! I have tried taking some antacid and drinking water but I can't get any relief. What can do immediately to get relief?
As per you query you have persistent acid reflux . You have tried OTC medicine but they are doing no good . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may order endoscopy , ambulatory acid test and x-ray of upper digestive track . Doctor may prescribe H2 blockers and proton pump inhibitor . For now avoid spicy and heavy food specially at night , eat one hour before going to bed , ear small and frequent meal and take light walk after every meal .
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
