Suggest Treatment For Persistent Bleeding After Removing Tonsils

I got my tonsils out a week ago. Every day I have some bleeding. It only lasts a few minutes as I gargle with ice water and it stops, which a nurse said is fine, but I m getting scared. I m worried that a bigger bleed will happen. I m not eating solid foods to take off scabs or anything, it s happening on its own. Would the doctor have any medication to help me, like a steroid or antibiotic, or do I just have to hope that I won t bleed out more seriously?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The bleeding is related to the tonsil surgery. It is normal and will relieve gradually.

I suggest to gargle with salt water and use a throat spray with antibacterial properties.

I also recommend using anti-inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
