Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cold And Severe Pain In Chest

Im 24 years old and smoke 5-6 cigarettes a day for past 5 years. I suffer from mild cold symptoms through out the year. I had a chest pa view x ray and it said prominent broncho vascular markings and bilateral hilar shadows are prominent. What does this mean.? I have no other symptoms just a little bit of cold all the time. Also a few days back i woke up and had severe pain in my chest but it got ok just after few minutes .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The cold is not usually persistent. The symptoms of cold are very similar to allergy symptoms or other inflammatory conditions that affect the chest.

The prominence of the markings and hilar shadows indicate that an inflammatory process is occurring in the lungs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
