Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a bad cold a month back which is fine now. . Three ENT surgeons have examined thoroughly and say that now there is only some edema in the passage. I am having some problem at the back of my throat wherein I frequently feel the need to little cough up and swallow to clear my throat. There is no mucus. It feels very uncomfortable when I cannot swallow. This continues throughout the day. At night also I sleep with difficulty. As the problem continues I get very restless. I am not able to concentrate. I showed to a Chest Physician (MD) who has diagnosed as some allergy and prescribed Fexofenadine, Rebamipide and Levosulpride. Still there is no relief. Kindly advise.
Hi, sometimes the kind of cough you are describing is brought on by GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease). The muscular sphincter in your food pipe that normally prevents food from coming back upwards once it has gone down, becomes loose and therefore bits and pieces of food suddenly regurgitate upwards every time the stomach pumps. This can enter the air passages and cause irritation, resulting in a desire to cough and expel the contents out. I would advise small frequent meals and drugs for GERD. Regards
