Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough And Fever

Started coughing 3 days ago(fri.). 101 fever the next day. By the day after that the fever was gone but still felt sick. Saw doctor yesterday. I have asthma so I was placed on Advair and leviquin to prevent secondary lung infection. Felt somewhat better but now low grade fever(99.5) is back and I feel sick again. Dr. wasn't,t sure if it is bacterial, non-flu virus or flu. Any thoughts on when I should start to feel better?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems to be a viral infection leading to cough and fever..
As it is 3 days you need not to worry because viral infection can take about a week to resolve as the virus will complete its cycle and gradually the infection will subside.
As antiviral medications are not effective in curing viral infection the treatment is mostly symptomatic and it will help in resolving the symptoms..
You can take Acetaminophen to reduce fever..
You can take cough suppressants to relieve cough..
You can do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations to relieve cough..
Avoid chilled and spicy foods..
Drink plenty of warm water and take sufficient rest..
In case of no improvement by the end of one week consult an Infectious medicine specialist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like complete blood picture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
