Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dizziness

Hello, I have been experiencing dizziness on and off for the past few weeks now. I am 55 years old. My blood pressure is fine. I have recently been to doctor for yearly check up and all blood work and urinalysis were fine. I have recently had a colonoscopy and it was good. Mammogram was good. I sometime wake up in the morning and experience a lot of dizziness and need to sit for a while before I can move. It doesn t happen every morning but now it seems to happen throughout my day every day now. What can I do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history of a 55 year old female having vertigo/dizziness which was initially present in the morning only but now throughout the day, normal blood, urine, colonoscopy.
The commonest causes of Vertigo at your age are as follows:
Cervical spondilitis leading to reduced blood supply from one of the vertebral artery.
Mastoid infection leading to inflammation of vestibular apparatus. This can be bacterial or viral.
Cerebellar problems.
Conditions of the vestibullo-cochlear nerves or at brain site.
Some medicines.
Benign positional vertigo.
All this can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Consult an ENT Surgeon first and a second opinion of a Neurologist if required and as per the diagnosis out of clinical evaluation and examination.
MRI with CT scan of the mastoids, brain and cervical spine as the case may be helps a lot.
Till you gt a final; diagnosis and proper specific management ask your Doctor to prescribe you symptomatic medicines like Cinnarizine.
Take rest, avoid sudden movements of neck.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
