Suggest Treatment For Persistent Shingles

My husband has neuropathy at his feet, but it has gone up his leg below the knee and it looks slightly swollen. Is ice the only thing to use to bring the swelling down? He has had Shingles for 6 1/2 months and he has come off of these some and this week he saw an Acupuncturist and she has helped some with the Shingles. Now he needs help with the neuropathy.
