Suggest Treatment For Persistent Vomiting In A Child

My 7 year old daughter is 4 feet tall and is 61 pounds. Exactly one week ago she came home from her second day in first grade and said her stomach didn t feel good. She vomited several times, but no diarrhea. After a rough night of vomiting and stomach pain, she woke feeling better and went to school. She had a normal day, but started feeling sick again when she got home. I took her to the emergency room. She did not have a fever. They checked her, tested her urine and blood. The test were negative. The doctor said she had a virus. They gave her a pill that dissolved in her mouth to help ease her upset stomach. She had had this medicine before, but this time it did not work. In fact, it seemed to have the opposite effect. They gave her a shot to help ease her upset stomach. That worked and she drank to get rehydrated. I kept her home from school the next four days through the weekend. The shot the hospital gave her for her upset stomach wore off and she started feeling nauseous again. Our family clinic suggested we try a gel that she rub on her rest. Again it had the opposite effect. She feels fine each morning and can eat, drink, and feels normal. But by late afternoon to early evening, she gets sick again. This has been going on for a week now. No one else is sick in the house. Is this a virus?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
A viral infection may give such presentation.Other possible causes may include a digestive bacterial infection, and digestive parasitic infections(amibiasis/digestive worms). These infections may not always present with fever and diarrhea.I will suggest you get a stool exam and culture, may be something will be revealed.I will suggest you try the following while waiting for the test results:
-Give her an anti-emetic like vogalene
-Oral rehydration salt to replenish ions lost through vomiting and ions loss may further aggravate symptoms
-Drink enough water
If any cause identified, your Doctor may give you an etiologic management.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
