I am a well-educated 70 year old lady. who s has always been very healthy, but a little overweight. I am 5.5 and weight 187. I lost my husband of 43 years. 15 months ago after years of kidney failure and several heart attacks. For the past 3 years, I have had tendonitis, heels spurs, and plantar fasciitis in both my feet and heels. I have been through three rounds of physical therapy for this. The therapist was very good and caring. I try to do my exercises three times a day, but sitting and watching tv while eating and doing my PT. In February, I had a steroid shot in each foot to ease the pain of my muscles not stretching in my calves and heels. I think this was a total of three shots in a year for both feet, as it initially started in one foot. Since that time, I have developed swelling and what feels like fluid in my left knee and sometimes it feels like I can hardly walk, but gets better after I force myself to walk, but I wonder if this does more harm than good. I had arthroscopic surgery on the left knee is 1992. The past two months, I have (rare) sharp and (often) medium pain in my left shoulder. I did not have any physical injuries as far as I know. I initially attributed it to all the stress I went through after my husband died and the sudden loss of a good friend. Now, I am wondering if I have symptoms of heart disease or attack. Sometimes the shoulder to elbow pain feels like I am pinching something, especially 3-4 below the shoulder joint (around the whole arm).... Other times it hurts worse when I raise my arm or twist it a little while holding it out. It usually hurts much worse at night or when I am not busy, sitting on the sofa recliner watching t.v. I do not think I am depressed. I have a new boyfriend who is very sweet and have been going with him about a year. However, there are days that the pain is almost unbearable...no chest pain...only allergy is morphine.... Why is all the pain in the joints (plus shoulder to elbow)? (Other than the heel spurs and tendonitis in both feet?) ...on the left side? How can I find the right kind of doctor for all these symptoms? My regular doctor retired. The new young doctor assigned to me, does not seem to want to be bothered with treating me. I am not required to get prior approval by Humana Managed Medicare for surgery.....but I want to avoid surgery only til it is the last resort. I live in Austin, Texas. My husband had some of the best doctors in Austin taking care of him, but he did not have the same symptoms I do. I am at a loss to decide if this is serious enough to try and see a joint pain specialist (what are they called?) or a heart doctor, because shoulder/arm pain and this fatigue are symptoms of heart attacks. Also there is something called impingement, which is where pinching occurs, but do not know if I have this in my shoulder. It is ironic because I have very good medical insurance, but do not know where to turn for help.
