Suggest Treatment For Plantar Wart On The Foot Of A Child

Hi, my 6 year old son has had a large plantar wart on his foot and has been treated twice but I have forgotten to take him in on a regular basis to continue treatment and now it is black and crusted and he now has red lines running from left to right near the wart, should I be worried or could they be unrelated?

Hello user,
Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for the query.

Plantar warts are noncancerous skin growths that are caused by a viral infection in the top layer of the skin. They are not harmful as opposed to the general view.

These warts generally go away without any treatment in about two years. However, these warts do have a tendency to recur if not taken care off.
The red lines that you have mentioned may be blood vessels that have grown up into the warts. So you need not worry about these.

Though you have missed the regular follow up with your doctor, you can practice some procedures at home itself to take basic care of the condition. One such home remedy is the use of a duct tape. You can use a strip over the wart and leave it for six days. Remove the tape after that and soak the wart in water and debride it using a pumice stone. Repeat the process until the wart is gone. This can take a few months.

You have to be patient enough and not expect miracles specially while using home remedies.

Hope this helps,
