my mother is diagnosed with left pleural effusion and she undergone pericardiactomy 2 months before for pericardial effusion.Doctors diagnosed that she has tuberculosis but the result is negative for TB.still doctors suspection is TB.Now she is in Anti TB
medications. Now she is diagnosed with pleural effusion. How pleural effusion can be treated.
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your mother's situation and problem. With anti tubercular drugs, tubercular pleural effusion is mostly treated. Since she is still having pleural effusion despite of treatment, possibility of multi drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR) or malignant pleural effusion is more. So better to consult pulmonologist and get done 1. CT thorax with Contrast 2. Pleural fluid AFB culture and sensitivity. 3. Pleural fluid cytology. 4. Pleural biopsy to rule out MDR tb and malignancy. So better to first diagnose her and than start appropriate treatment. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.
