Suggest Treatment For Popliteal Cyst From Bursitis Behind The Knee

I have a popliteal cyst from bursitis behind my knee causing much discomfort. I also have trochanteric bursitis in my hips and swelling on my right ankle. I have been to an orthopedic surgeon who prescribed ibuporphen which got me out of a wheel chair. He also wanted to give me a cortisone shot in my hips but I decided against that temporarily. Is there anything else you can suggest for me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Sometimes using a knee wrap, like an ace bandage can help the popliteal cyst resolve. You only want to use this when you are up and moving around. Do not wear it when you are sitting or lying down. Ibuprofen is a good anti-inflammatory but if you end up using it long term you may need to use something like omeprazole to protect your stomach.
Physical therapists trained in popliteal cysts may be also able to help you.
