Suggest Treatment For Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

I have been diagnosed with PTSD following the death of my husband 2 1/2 yrs ago. He had Alzheimer s disease and was extremely difficult to control. My doctor prescribed Escitalopram 10mg. And also clonazepam 0.5mg. I was told that sometimes Escitalopram causes heart arithymea (sp ?). Is this safe for me to take in order to calm my PTSD? I have to take something to calm my nerves as my hair is falling out, I am extremely irritable, and unable to concentrate. I have seen 4 counsellors but have received no help. They all listened and sympathized, but no help. What do you think about the prescriptions?

Hello,

I am sorry for your loss. As you have tried counselling sessions with four different experts and they do not seem helpful to you, it seems necessary for you to take medicines.

Any group of antidepressants and anxiolytics can cause adverse reactions but in your circumstances, advantages of medicines outweigh its adverse reactions. So you should start the therapy with medicines and take supportive counselling sessions for better benefits. Try to do things that you like, meet your friends and relatives and try to make plans to go out. With the help of medicines, counselling sessions and tuning your routine to new routine can make impact of death of your husband little easy for you. Remember that time can heal any wound.

I hope this advise helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
