Abnormal uterine bleeding is unfortunately a common problem. It is thought to affect around 10% of women with predominance close to menarche and menopause.

About half of abnormal bleeding is undiagnosed. Some known causes are listed below:
-bleeding disorders
-uterine fibroids
-endometrial polyps
-hypothryoidism
-endometriosis
-IUD
-adenomyosis
-infections
-some forms of birth control
-polycystic ovarian syndrome
-hyperprolactemia
-premenopausal

I would recommend:
-seeing your doctor to get started on a birth control contraceptive, particularly one with progesterone dominant. If you are on a birth control pill, you need to switch to a different type.
-NSAIDs such as ibuprofen can decrease blood flow and loss, as well as pain
-you should be screened for iron deficiency anemia, thyroid dysfunction, and bleeding disorders
-pregnancy test
-endometrial biopsy or ultrasound to rule out fibroids
-Most people respond well to medical management and surgery is not required.
-some people require high doses of estrogen or progesterone to initially control the bleeding.
