Suggest Treatment For Rapid Heart Rate

Hi Doctor,
I am under very severe strees for quiet a few months now but lately I feel an extremely rapid heart rate and today my heartbeat was through the roof.
I am a 35 year old male with ataxic cerebral palsy with a previous event of rapid heart rate.
I feel so stressed please help me doc.

Hello,

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to anxiety.

Anyway, I would recommend performing some tests to investigate other possible causes underlying your complaints:
- a resting ECG and a cardiac ultrasound
- thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalance
- complete blood count for anemia.

An ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring would help investigate for possible cardiac arrhythmia.

If all the above tests result normal, I would recommend trying to focus on your anxiety. In this regard, some herbal supplements with passiflora and valeriana can help improve your situation.
