Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I'm allergic to quinine. I have a fixed drug reaction including circular rashes that reappear when exposed, swollen lips and labia. Are there any other allergies linked to quinine allergy? I have had chronic sinusitis for 2 years and cannot work out the allergen.
As per your complain in case if you are allergic to quinine and have fixed drug interactions to it then the best way to prevent it is to avoid taking the drug.. In case if you have similar symptoms when exposed to other drugs or any other substances, then it can be allergic reaction to some other allergens too.. In order to get ruled out for the causes of allergic reaction you have to consult an Allergist or Immunologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Prick test, Patch test, est food challenge test and RAST test can help in ruling out the specific allergens that are causing symptoms.. Once the allergens are ruled out then the best way to avoid symptoms is avoiding exposure to allergen.. But in case if you accidentally gets exposed again and again then an Immunotherapy can be instilled to reduce the severity of the symptoms..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
