Suggest Treatment For Rectal Pain Radiating To The Lower Abdomen

Hello! I have been experiencing rectal pain that radiates to the lower abdomen. This is now the 4th day. There is no noticeable blood or mucus. Tylenol seems to help if the pain is too bad. I have been taking stool softeners, which makes having a bowel movement easier. I have had a hysterectomy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There are many medical conditions that can cause rectal pain. The most common cause is anal fissures.

Recommend sitting in a tub of hot water for 20 minutes, three times a day, to reduce pain and help to heal.

Eat a high-fibre diet and use stool softeners to make bowel movements less painful.

Apply hydrocortisone cream to decrease pain. See a proctologist if needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
