Suggest Treatment For Red Swollen Painful Wounds Caused By Thorns Of Tree
I was clearing trees from a lot in Eastern, NC and got punctured by a long black thorn. Now my puncture wounds are red, swollen, and very painful. I don t know the type of tree, I just need to know what I should do to heal my puncture wounds and stop the swelling.
Hi. I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.
1.Following thorn prick if you can find out the sharp thorn then remove it.
2. If bleeding is there, stop it by applying firm, direct pressure on it with the help of sterile gauze or clean cloth.
3. Wash the wound with clean water
4.Take a course of antibiotics like cephalosporins group if the puncture is superficial & if the wound is deep seated then adjust antibiotics accordingly.
5. Or apply antibiotic cream or ointment like Neosporin or Polysporin. Change the dressing every 2days once atleast.
5. Take analgesics.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.
Regards, Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
