Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doctor! My mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia early this year, triggered by the demise of my father last year. She has been on medication since February 2010, however she has been complaining of the side effects such as extreme drowsiness, slurring in speech etc. She has been taking medication to counter the slurring in speech, however the drowsiness continues. She feels completely fine now. Kindly let me know if the medication for such patients needs to be continued for their lifetime. Thanks!
I went through your details. I suggest you not to worry much. Simple schizophrenia is fully curable if treated in the beginning stage itself. In your mothers case, schizophrenia happened after your fathers demise. It is rather bereavement anxiety rather than schizophrenia. Work with your psychiatrist for proper cure.
Many researches and researchers confirm that medicines alone cannot cure mental disorders. Life style changes, change in thinking pattern, relaxation etc are as essential as medicines. Psychotherapy can help you changing your lifestyle and thinking patterns. Yoga and meditation help you to streamline your metabolism and neurological balance. Please consult a psychologist for further information.
If you require more of my help in this aspect, Please post a direct question to me in this website. Make sure that you include every minute details possible. I shall prescribe the needed psychotherapy techniques.
Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications. Good luck.
