Suggest Treatment For Sclerosing Cholangitis And Gallbladder Cancer
My 54 year old brother was diagnosed with sclerosing cholangitis and gallbladder cancer last month. They found a mass in his gallbladder. They told him they can't do chemo/radiation as the liver won't be able to handle it or it will kill the liver. I found 2 websites of people who have this liver condition and cancer and were given chemo/radiation. He even went and got a second opinion from Oncologists and both sets of doctors are saying the same thing, no chemo. So why are the doctors telling him that, since I just read that people were given chemo/radiation. He was given 6 months.
Good morning. Chemo radiation can be given in a case of gall bladder cancer only if the cancer is localised and the condition of liver is good. However in your brothers case, the condition of the liver is not good due the sclerosing cholangitis and might be the cancer is not localised. Hence the doctor has refused for chemo radiation. Only some form of mild chemo therapy alone can be tried in your case. regards
