Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a cyst like area that a nurse practitioner said feels like a sebaceous cyst but she said it appeared to have a red ring in middle like something may have bitten me. It does not hurt and it has been there for about a year but has recently been growing. It s about the size of a small rubber ball. Maybe quarter size in width. What s your opinion
Sebaceous cysts are very common and do cause skin lumps that are generally not tender (unless they are rupturing). They may stay stable for a while and may start to grow unpredictably.
The only way to treat them is by removing them surgically. It is best to not only open and drain the cyst but remove the cyst with the capsule around it so it does not return.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
