Hi,
Depending on the source of the
stomach flu, you may have more mucus or even blood discharge.
Most common causes of
foodborne illness, especially in the US, are viruses, such as norovirus, bacteria such as
Salmonella,
Escherichia coli and Listeria. Most cases of acute infectious diarrhoea are a viral cause.
As long as there are no warning symptoms such as high spiking fever or bloody diarrhoea, you may continue to monitor current progress with oral hydration.
However if symtoms continue to get worse or not changed and you continue to produce excessive
flatulence (mucus discharge), then I advise you to go to local urgent care or your doctor's office to have futher assessment including stool testing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Katie Lee, General & Family Physician
