Suggest Treatment For Severe Allergic Reactions To Mosquito Bite

Hi everytime i get bit by a mosquito it itches extremely bad to the point that I am constantly scratching and it causes the area to swell for a few days. Am I allergic or is there a new type of mosquito that s causing this? I have been taking benedryl as well applying anti-itch cream on the affected area for the past two days.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is normal for the mosquito bites to be itchy and the more you scratch them the more itchy they become and they may also get infected. Some people have this reaction less intense, some have it more pronounced.
It is important to avoid scratching it though. It is good you are applying the anti-itch cream, if it does not contain a steroid in it probably using a cream that contains steroid is advisable. If the itch is too intense you can apply a local cold compress to suppress the itchy sensation.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
