Suggest Treatment For Severe Chest Pain In An Elderly Person

I m 56 years old female and I m pretty healthy for the most part. I don t drink or smoke, but I have a high stress job. Last couple of days I have been having a little chest pain on the left side of my chest. It comes and goes. I keep thinking that it might be gas. How can I tell the difference if it is gas or something else?

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. It is very difficult to differentiate between pain from cardiac and gastric side. As vagus nerve can be irritated in both condition these can be presented as similar symptoms. So it is better to rule out cardiac cause of chest pain by doing an ECG examination. You can also take proton pump inhibitors like esomeprazole ( Nexium ) for one week. If it is gastric pain there will be relief also.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
