Suggest Treatment For Severe Coughs And Abdominal Cramps

I was coughing a lot with no mucus coming out at all. I went to see a doctor(was PA), result was a prescription for LEVOFLOXACIN 750MG Amount = 7 . I am on second day, second pill. I have body pain like I did not have before, cramps in my stomach. The doctor said is PNEUMONIA , Can you help with a different opinion. As I was typing I cough and second time today I see I am coughing with blood.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pneumonia is usually diagnosed on the basis of the findings on the x-ray. You have a respiratory infection. Blood can be seen the sputum if you have a bout of severe coughing with breaking of capillaries in the throat or the respiratory passage.

The blood can come if there is consolidation of the lung, the classical lobar pneumonia in which case it is usually rust colored rather than red. A CBC and chest x-ray would be helpful in coming to the correct diagnosis and deciding on the appropriate medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Noble Zachariah
