Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea And Vomiting

Woke up with very quesy stomach and weakness, ate small sandwich to get strength up at 10am but just got worse. Vomited once around 4 pm and diarrhea twice, including just now. Can drink nothing but water for last 12 hrs and weakness isn t going away. Slept off and on since 3 pm. Feel bloated and stomach very sensitive. Usually great health and get sick rarely. Started new job 6 months ago and no health insurance and very little money.

Hi,

This surely is due to gastroenteritis which may need active management to avoid further complications of dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and effects on body and kidneys.
Hence I would advise you to try the following since you do not have an insurance and have little money.
Take a PPI like Omeprazole and Domperidone to stop vomiting.
If the vomiting stops then you can take oral fluids, electrolyte solution and take foods and beverages.
IF the vomiting does not stop then surely you have to visit a nearby hospital or so to get the injectable form of medications and may also need intravenous fluids and antibiotics.
Take probiotics.
Activated charcoal, bananas and yogurt/curs may help you further.
Drink boiled for 20 minutes and cooled water and have fresh home made foods only.
If the home remedies do not help please consult a Doctor and get proper diagnosis and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
