Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Norovirus is a very contagious virus. You can get it from an infected person, contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces. The virus causes your stomach or intestines or both to get inflamed. This leads you to have stomach pain,
nausea, and
diarrhea and to throw up.
Signs and symptoms usually begin 24 to 48 hours after first exposure to the virus, and last one to three days. You may continue to shed virus in your feces for up to three days after recovery.Persistence of symptoms for 3 to 5 weeks should only be in very rare cases and will need further investigations.
However, the greatest complication from diarrhea is getting dehydrated.I will suggest you try the following:
-Oral rehydration salt/enough fluids
-Take an anti-diarrheal like imodium
-Take bananas if possible.
-Avoid drinks that contain a lot of sugar like soft drinks and fruit juices.
No specific treatment for norovirus.Only symptomatic treatment will do.
If you feel too weak and dehydrated, you may see your Doctor for hospitalization and IV fluid replacement.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
