Hi I have 4.5 yrs old who came home from after school club with severe earache. No other symptoms. No cold or sore throat, no fever. Gave her calpol paracetamol based but after an 1.5 hrs pain is back. I have now repeated this twice. We are not able to console her, she screams uncontrollably. Does not even let us to touch her. Shall we go to hospital or wait for the Dr office in the morning? Thank you
Understanding your concern. As per your query you severe earache in your child's ear . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like ear infection , ear drum perforation or sometimes upper respiratory track infection spread to ear through Eustachian tube . I would suggest you to give children's ibuprofen for pain and apply dry warm compresses on external ear . If pain persist for more then 24 hous then consult ENT specialist for proper checkup . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like gentamicin along with anti inflammatory .
