Suggest Treatment For Severe Flank Pain While Having Kidney Stone

I m a 54 yo F schedules for lithotripsy on Thursday to bust up an 8mm kidney stone stuck in the Uretor blocking the kidney. I m in extreme pain - shooting pains that Tylenol with Codine tame a little. If the procedure is successful, will my pain be immediate releived? I ve been in pain since my ER visit Friday afternoon. Thanks

Hi,

Lithotripsy crushes the big stones...so that they get easily flushed out of the urinary passage. Usually, after the procedure.. the pain reduces in a few days, but if the stone was too big, may need another sitting for making the pieces finer. Mostly the result is assessed in 8-10 days of procedure to know the extent of clearance. Keep drinking plenty of water to facilitate passage of stone pieces. Take pain medicine as per need & do go for follow up as prescribed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
