Two weeks ago, after standing for five hours at visitation for my daughter and the activities around her funeral, I developed severe pain in my left hip that continued down my thigh. I saw a doctor who diagnosed the pain as piriformis syndrome and prescribed stretches. The pain worsened, encompassing my entire leg with pain particularly severe around my knee and bottom rib, all on my left side. The pain wakes me for several hours at night when it is worse. I saw my doctor who prescribed physical therapy. The therapist is not sure what to do as symptoms did not respond to his tests. Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with scoliosis and arthritis in my back. I have had no problems since then. I had been physically very active, working out and walking several miles a day until October when I began spending most of my time caring for my daughter as she succumbed to cancer. The pain responds somewhat to ibuprophin but after a few hours sleep it returns worse than ever. All of my skin from my trunk down is very tender to the touch. Wearing a bra and anything with a snug waistband is extremely uncomfortable. I have never had these problems before.
