Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Shoulder And Upper Chest Post Injury From A Fall
I am a 33 yr old male that was rope swinging into a pond 3 days days ago. I backflopped into the pond from 12-15 feet knocking the breath out of me. I have had sharp pains in my back and left shoulder starting at my back shoulder blade and ribs wrapping all the way around the front to my sternum. If I lift my left arm higher than my shoulder or breath deeply I have sharp pains in my lung and shoulder blade area, I tried to lift a gallon of milk and couldn t with my left hand earlier and when I picked up a laundry basket earlier, I was in an extreme amount of pain. At first I thought I had fractured or bruised ribs but a good friend says that he thinks it is my rotator cuff. my question is - should I get an xray? I showed no bruising, only serious pain when lifting with my left hand or breathing deeply.
Your symptoms seem to be related to the injury. I suggest to do an X-ray for further evaluation. Meanwhile, I suggest using an anti-inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the inflammation. I also suggest to maintain the shoulder immobilized with a splint to prevent further damage.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
