Suggest Treatment For Sinus Infection

I am unable to smell or taste after a flight, I have a terrible sinus infection so have been on medication for 3 days and still no taste or smell! I used Afrin before flying and again today, which I ve used before and worked when I had a cold, what else can I do, do I need to see a specialist?

Hi Dear ,

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . You mentioned that you have sinus infection that is sinusitis. You should take this serious because if sinusitis left untreated infection can spread to surrounding part like middle ear or brain (meningitis). So i would suggest you to consult ENT specialist (ear,nose,throat) for proper examination and treatment .

Doctor may order X-ray or CT scan for proper diagnosis . He/she may prescribe nasal decongestant , antibiotic course or mucolytic agent (ambroxol). If the cause of sinusitis is allergy the doctor may prescribe antihistamine drug.

For now do warm saline gargles , take saline nasal drops , take steam 2-3 times a day and drink plenty of water to keep your self hydrate .
