Suggest Treatment For Sinus Infection

Hello, Where do I begin? I had a sinus infection in August 2013. I had the problem for a while before I finally couldn t stand it and went to the Dr. I took an antibiotic for the full course and was better but not completely healed so the Dr. had to prescribe the same antibiotic for 1/2 of the course of time. I was totally better. I stayed well from Sept. 2013 until about Dec. or Jan 2014 and now have the same congestion. If I talk too long, I become completely stuffed up. When completely stuffed up, I start coughing with a dry cough. I sing and when I practice, I get stuffed up and singing high notes doesn t work out too well. While sleeping, I usually cough and my nose will just start running. It just runs out! When I wake up and sit up, I can t get a kleenex fast enough for the fluid that runs out of my nose. That fluid is clear. But when I blow my nose during the day it is usually a yellow. Also, when I wake up, I have a lot of crust around the outside of my nose and just on the inside rim. All of this happens daily. Not sure why I put off going to the Dr. I will go. Guess I m just stubborn! And I have zero sense of smell. I haven t had a sense of smell since before all of these sinus problems. I m starting to miss my sense of smell. The only ting I have been able to smell, slightly, is when my husband mows the lawn. What do you think?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Dear
It seems you have developed rhinitis again which gets worsen when you lie down etc. Yellow color discharge on blowing indicates that there is superseded bacterial infection which also result in loss of smell. Usually all the nasal infections are associated with sinus inflammation to some extent and resolve once nasal infection is cleared up. However on persistent nasal infection the sinus mucosa becomes more edematous and results in sinusitis which takes time to resolve. As far as concern to your treatment, I suggest taking combination medicine of antihistamine and pseudoephedrine along with nasal spray of xylometazoline and nasal corticosteroids spray like fluticasone or ciclenosamide. Steam inhalation with vicks will be a great help in removing crust and opening up the nasal cavity with loosening of discharge
