Suggest Treatment For Skin Rashes While On Gabapentin For Nerve Pain
my husband is taking Gabapentin for nerve pain from a drop foot ...he has developed a skin rash. Current meds are: Vit D 1000 units 2 x day, Pantoprazole 40 mg 1 per day, hydrochlorathiazide 25 mg daily, 5 mg amlodipine 2 x day, 100 mg Metoprolol 3 x day, 5 mg elequis 2 x day...
Gabapentin, like almost every other medication, can cause a skin rash, though it is rare. I would consider other causes, such as an allergic reaction to something he came in contact with, before thinking Gabapentin is the most likely cause. If you think it might be something he touched, and the rash itches, you could try corticosteroid cream, like Hydrocortisone.
However, since it started after starting Gabapentin, it would be reasonable to stop the Gabapentin to see if the rash resolves as well. If not, I would recommend he has his doctor look at it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
General & Family Physician
