Suggest Treatment For Social Anxiety And Depression

I cry when I m nervous in social situations. Like last night I went to my first band meeting and didn t know anyone and I wanted to cry and I felt like a pain in my chest. And at my volleyball camp I didn t know anyone and I wanted to cry because I was so nervous, when I knew I had no reason to. Last year when I have to do a speech about a book I read I started to cry during the very end, but I stopped it and asked to go to the bathroom after I was done. Do I have some type of disorder? I am really worried about it cause it has been like this all my life. Do I need to go on medication? Thanks, Kylie

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic

You have social phobia and in that case, you need both antidepressant as well as psychotherapy. In medicine, antidepressant like paroxetine or venlafaxine would help you to decrease such anxiety symptoms and in psychotherapy, you need exposure therapy. Better to consult a psychiatrist for proper management plan and in case, you need further help, you can ask.

Thanks
