Suggest Treatment For Sore And Swollen Throat

I have had a sore throat for nearly 3 and a half weeks...2 weeks ago I stopped into urgent care to make sure it was not strep (the test was negative)...I was advised it could be a viral cold making its way through my system. This seems a bit long to be a viral cold and I don t have inflamed sinuses or a fever or cough...just a sore/swollen throat that is tender and moving up to the back of my tongue. I do know I snore at night and breath through my mouth at times so it could be drying my out...but not sure if I could swing by by to check in with the doc?

Hello,

You have a history of having sore throat with swelling that is tender. You are suggested to rinse your mouth and gargle your throat with warm salt water.

Avoid breathing through the mouth as it dries the mucosa triggering cough. To prevent dryness of the mouth you should take sips of water & stay well hydrated. Take vitamin E, Evion-400, once daily for 15 days for better lubrication.

Allergic also causes dry cough, take antihistamines, one sos at bed time to reduce coughing.

Take analgesics, acataminophen one sos, to reduce swelling of the throat. Recurrent dry cough may cause inflamed mucosa & swelling throat but difficulty in swallowing is commonly due to enlarged tonsils or swollen glands.

Get clinically examined by an ENT, get investigations & imaging tests done. You may need a course of oral antibiotics for faster healing. Avoid addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
