Suggest Treatment For Soreness In The Ankle Region
I have been having soreness in the back of my ankle where the tendon is. It s sore to touch and when I walk it hurts. If I push on it while it s relaxed it hurts badly, but if I flex my foot pointing my toes, and manipulate it, I don t get the same shooting pain. This morning I elevated it on a heating pad and that made it feel better, but once I started my day and walked around it starts aggravating it more.
It does sound like you have Achilles tendonitis. Generally, at first, we recommend avoiding any aggravating activities, applying ice when it hurts.
I would suggest trying ice instead of heat and see if that helps more. Take a short course of NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, usually for about 7 days) as long as you don't have any medical conditions that NSAIDs would affect, and support the Achilles with a heel lift.
Once it has begun to heal, you should rehabilitate the tendon with exercises specifically designed for it, which you may need a physical therapist for or you can try searching for videos on exercises for Achilles tendinopathy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
