I'm having trouble controlling my mania. I have been diagnosed very high ADHD. I have been on medication for this since I am a child. I am not confirmed as bipolar, however I do struggle of strong Oberst of mania regularly. I do not have depression. Although I do shut down from time to time and not want to speak to people for a couple of days . My family doctor thinks I'm fine and that I'm just funny . I have been trashing everything everywhere . Any advice you could give would be helpful . Should I get a lithium level test? How do I get one ? Is it a blood test ? It does run in my family. Thank you have a great day
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. You have severe manic episode and have been diagnosed with ADHD. In most of patients of mania anger outburst are seen commonly. If you are on Lithium Carbonate then you should get the levels checked to find out if the drug is in therapeutic range. The test is a blood test and the test should be done in morning after taking night dose and overnight fasting. In normal cases the range is 0.6-1.2 mmil/ltr and if your levels come in this range then your drug is in therapeutic range.
For acute relief of symptoms medicines like Olanzapine, Quetiapine etc can be used. These medicines help in sleep and result in improvement in symptoms of mania quickly. Visit your doctor for help.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
