Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Bruising In The Ankle And Foot After Injury

I was stuck on my right shin by a softball on a line drive. A goose egg formed and despite icing and elevation in addition to compression, some of the blood flowed down my leg and into my foot. My ankle and foot are swollen and purple on the left side and my leg, where struck and running down the shin are still sore, it has been 10 days since the injury. Is there anything to do to reduce the swelling and inflammation as well as assist in the blood being absorbed? I can t sleep at night due to the discomfort. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to the injury.

I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the inflammation.

I also suggest using cold compresses in the area of pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
