Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In The Ankle

My husband had a bypass last November. Inside of ankle on leg where veins were harvested is swollen and a tiny bit discolored. He noticed it yesterday. This morning the swelling was down enough to see his ankle but has swollen back up this afternoon. Should he see his primary care doctor (off on Thurs and Fri), call the cardiologist or go to an urgent care facility....or just wait and see. No pain. no itching, does not think it is a bug bite or that he banged it on something. Thanks

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Leg/ankle swelling with no pain may be caused by many medical conditions.Possible causes may include:
-Venous insufficiency due to your surgery
-Local soft tissue infection
-Heart, liver or kidney pathologies
-Poor venous return
-And so may others
I will suggest you try the following:
*Rest well and avoid stressing/straining the leg
*Elevate leg while lying
*Take a diuretic like furosemide if swelling serious
I the problem persist, you see his Primary Care Doctor for evaluation.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
